Barely 22 years since the world saw one of the shock ethnic persecution and cleansing; many of Rwandan Genocide suspects are still at run as they have find themselves some refuge in different countries across the globe.

All started when a Tutsi president got assassinated by ethnic Hutu army group which was followed by mass killings. Some of the perpetrators are seeking a refuge in France, Belgium, Italy, United States, Britain and other Africa neighboring countries.

But, following revelations about Vincent Murekezi who is one of the Rwandan genocide convict by Malawi’s media that he is seeking a refuge in the country; many of civil society groups have called upon the government of Malawi to extradite Mr. Vincent Murekezi back to Rwanda to face the book.

Concerned Citizen which is a Civil Society grouping has said their findings does not indicate any facts that Mr. Murekezi is running any business in Malawi. But he possess a licensed gun which brings many questions on how he managed to obtain it.

In 2011, there is indication that Mr. Murekezi acquired a Malawian Passport with its number being MA 078171, then earlier this year in March he also got the second passport with number MA 606888 which still puts questions that he might be connected to some elites in the government of Malawi. In Both Passports Murekezi appears to be using a Malawian common surnames of Banda and as Vincent Banda in full.

Besides, he holds a Rwandan Passport and its number is PC 939663.

Philip Kamangira is one of the people facilitating the Concerned Citizen group and he says the government of Malawi should probe on how the Rwandan Genocide Convict obtained Malawian passports, suspend, investigate and prosecute all involved in the saga.

“The convict should be arrested and extradited immediately for not compromising the country’s security. Malawi government should adhere to international protocols and treaties that it signed on regulating extradition-AU Charter on Human and People’s rights,” Kamangira said.

And Malawi’s Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Grace Obama Chiumia dismissed the reports and the by civil society groups saying she does not know someone with a name Vincent Murekezi but Vincent Banda who is a successful business man.
